One of Turkey’s pioneering classical guitarists, Begül Erhan, will meet classical music lovers in Ankara on November 14.
With a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance period to Anatolian melodies, the musician has released two albums under the Ada Müzik label. Her first album, Anatolian Folk Songs (2017), holds the distinction of being the first classical guitar album ever released by a female guitarist in the history of the Republic of Turkey. Her second album, Tarrega (2020), further expanded her artistic achievements.
Who is Begül Erhan?
Born in Ankara, Begül Erhan began giving concerts shortly after starting her guitar education. As a solo performer across Turkey, she has introduced many people to the guitar for the first time. She has participated in numerous culture and art programs in both national and local media, delivering talks and performances related to classical guitar. She has also attended master classes with many internationally recognized virtuoso guitarists to further refine her skills.
Begül Erhan began her international career with successful performances at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including the Vienna Konzerthaus and a concert in Sicily, Italy. She continues to perform at festivals and special concert events worldwide and collaborates with many internationally acclaimed artists.
Her repertoire spans works from the Renaissance era to contemporary pieces, including Latin composers and traditional Turkish melodies. Her debut album, Anatolian Folk Songs (Ada Müzik), features Anatolian folk music and remains a historic milestone as Turkey’s first classical guitar album by a female guitarist. Her second album, Tarrega (Ada Müzik), presents works by Francisco Tárrega, one of the leading Spanish classical guitar composers.
Begül Erhan continues her musical journey with album recordings, concerts across Turkey, and a special project titled “Guitar Recitals for Anatolia”, bringing classical guitar to cities and regions where such concerts are rare or have never been performed. In addition to performing, she continues her work as a guitar educator, training numerous students.
