Mahsun Kırmızıgül

Mahsun Kırmızıgül, whose real name is Abdullah Bazencir, was born on March 26, 1969, in the village of Vezir in the Hani district of Diyarbakır, Turkey. He comes from a Zaza family with 22 children. After a difficult childhood, Mahsun developed an early interest in music. Upon moving to Istanbul, he studied at the Turkish Music State Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and began his music career.

 

Who is Mahsun Kırmızıgül?

His stage name, “Mahsun Kırmızıgül,” was inspired by his love for the red rose. Over the years, he became one of Turkey’s most listened-to arabesque musicians.

In the early 2000s, he took a break from music to pursue a career in film as a director, screenwriter, and producer. The films he wrote and directed, often carrying strong social messages, made a significant impact on Turkish cinema. Among his most acclaimed works are White Angel (2007), I Saw the Sun (2009), Five Minarets in New York (2010), and The Miracle (2015).
